27/12/2009Labour Union N°1 rejects last offer presented by Altonorte
Xstrata Copper North Chile Division’s Altonorte Metallurgical Complex announces that after the five-day period of mediation by the Labour Inspectorate, Labour Union No. 1, which represents 274 workers, rejected the company’s last offer for a new collective agreement. Union members are expected to start a strike on Monday, 28 December, at 8:00 a.m.

As part of the collective bargaining process, the Altonorte Metallurgical Complex will ask the Antofagasta Labour Board to mediate, after workers in Labour Union No. 1 did not accept the last offer presented by the company in a vote held today afternoon.

Kidd Mine has achieved 2 years worked without a Lost Time Injury. This important milestone was achieved on Friday, November 27th, 2009 when employees and contractors working at the Kidd Mine site completed just over 3.8 Million hours worked without an injury causing any lost time.

Xstrata Copper Canada has announced that it will permanently cease operation of its copper and zinc metallurgical plants at the Kidd Metallurgical site in Timmins on 1 May 2010, as part of a plan to restructure its Canadian metallurgical operations. The Kidd mine and concentrator will remain in operation.

Xstrata Copper Canada announces that it will permanently cease operation of its copper and zinc metallurgical plants at the Kidd Metallurgical Site in Timmins on May 1, 2010, in a rationalization of its Canadian metallurgical operations. The Kidd mine and concentrator will remain in operation.

Xstrata Copper announces corporate approvals for a total investment of US$542 million (approximately AUD589 million) to extend the life of its Ernest Henry Mining (EHM) operations near Cloncurry in north-west Queensland, Australia, to at least 2024, through the transformation of open pit mining operations to a major underground mine together with the construction of an associated magnetite extraction plant.
